H2 handbook

A user's guide to the H2 beam line in the North Area at CERN

This manual describes the layout of the H2 beam line as from year 2004 on. It includes beam optics, target designs and the beam profiles in the experimental area. The major change in 2004 was the modification of this beam line towards the "Very Low Energy" beam (VLE). This allows to run the H2 beam with an additional target close to the experimental area in order to produce pions and electrons with a momentum of 2-9 GeV/c and single particle momentum resolution of 1%. The use of H2 as a secondary particle beam of all kinds and primary protons with momenta up to 350 GeV/c is still available. This handbook provides information for operators, the users in the H8 experimental areas and EA physicists.
